- 3412 N. Leaf River Rd. - Structure Fire -

On July 17th, 2007 Mt. Morris Fire and Ambulance responded to a reported structure fire at 3412 N. Leaf River Rd. A passer by reported flames and smoke coming from the rural residence. Chief Hough arrived on scene and assumed Command on a 1-½ story wood frame residence with heavy fire venting from Division 1 on the Alpha side. Command immediately requested a second alarm MABAS box 12. Mt. Morris Engine Co. 5702 arrived and pulled a 2 ½” handline and attacked the fire from the interior of Divisions 1 & 2. Two Mt. Morris firefighters were transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion, both were treated and released. The home received major damage to its contents and moderate structural damage. No one was home at the time of the fire though the family dog did perish. Byron, Dixon Rural, Forreston, German Valley, Leaf River, Oregon, Polo and Stillman Fire Departments assisted Mt.
